On February 26, 1999 the State Press Committee of the Russian Federation registered a new corporate sci-tech journal Science & Technology in the Gas Industry (license #018538). The journal was founded by Gazprom and IRTs Gazprom. As proposed by V.V. Remizov, the then Deputy Chairman of Gazprom's Management Committee, the journal pursued the objective to unite the national developers of state-of-the-art technologies with their colleagues introducing new practices into Russian and foreign companies for the purpose of accelerating the practical usage of findings, inventions and technical innovations. The editorial staff approved by Gazprom's Management Committee Chairman R.I. Vyakhirev consisted of leading scientists and specialists of Gazprom and a representative of the higher education science A.I. Vladimirov, Rector of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. V.V. Remizov was appointed as Editor-in-Chief and his deputies were A.D. Sedykh, Head of the Science and Emerging Technology Directorate, Gazprom and N.H. Khallyev, Director General of IRTs Gazprom.A pilot issue of the journal was dedicated to the successful cooperation between Gazprom and Russian conversion companies. The issue aroused an intense interest throughout the gas industry and related sectors. As a rule, the journal issues consisted of two main parts containing the results of scientific research as well as the data about new equipment and its introduction experience. In 2003 D.M. Dankin (the then Director General of IRTs Gazprom) initiated the transfer to a topic-oriented approach to the journal compilation. T.I. Shkerina was appointed as Editor-in-Chief. Later on, the journal saw a number of new columns. Numerous readers interested in sci-tech aspects within the gas industry got the chance to obtain information about new names in the natural gas science, to learn more about the scientists who had made a noticeable contribution to the resolution of the problems covered by the journal issues. In 2004 an institute of scientific advisers comprising competent scientists and specialists was introduced: scientific advisers assess manuscripts to make up the authors team and select papers to be published in the relevant issues of the journal. So, each issue of the journal is dedicated to a specific sci-tech matter and is compiled under the guidance of a scientific adviser well-recognized in the respective field of science. In February 2004 the journal was included in the list of leading reviewed science journals and publications approved for publishing the research results, PhD and Doctorate theses (decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Education and Science Ministry of the Russian Federation dated 13.02.2004 # 7/6). The leading Russian and international scientists from higher education institutions and academies, as well as sci-tech institutes of the oil and gas industry regularly publish their papers in the journal. After Gazprom quit the journal in late 2006, IRTs Gazprom was registered as the only founder of the journal by the Federal Surveillance Service for Compliance with Legislation in the Sphere of Mass Communication and Social Heritage (license PI # FS77-26272 dated 17.11.2006).The journal ceased to be a corporate issue and since 2007 it has been distributed on a free-subscription basis across Russia and the CIS. In November 2006 A.I. Lipatov, Deputy Director General of IRTs Gazprom became Editor-in-Chief of the journal. The Editorial Board was formed of prominent scientists in the oil and gas field. Under the initiative of S.A. Kalityuk, a new Director General of IRTs Gazprom, much effort was made to improve the printing quality of the journal. Since 2007 the journal has been published in color and totaled 120, A5-format, pages. The new design was developed by V.V. Drapkin and A.N. Levshakov employed by IRTs Gazprom. The journal updating actions were coordinated by M.Yu. Golsheva. In November 2009 A.M.Khegai became Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
